Read about Toyin Lawani's engagment this morning. She said yes to her 21 year old boyfriend. And I read with utter delight and amusement the comments that followed. Read it HERE! The 1st comment was child molestation and child's play = jail time. hahahahaha. Totally hilarious.

Beyond the main subject matter of an older woman dating/getting married to a younger man and beyond the maturity question. I would like to bring to your attention the more subtle issues.  Had the case been reversed, less people would raise an eyebrow. There would even be jokes like - catch them young,help them grow. Men would congratulate the guy about his 'accomplishment'. And people would wish them well all round. Isn't that hypocritical of us as a people? Is the 21 year old female more mature? Does she really understand what she is about to do? Is she more prepared?Is a 21 year old(male/female) able to make that kind of decision?


My other point is more a question. Is it soo wrong for a woman to date a younger man? Does the age difference matter? 1 year,2 years,5 years.....10 years?  And this leads me to other questions - Is 10 years too much? Would it be better if they were both older, say a 35 year old woman and a 25 years old man?

Just some food for thought. We are often comfortable looking in 1 direction but shouldn't we try to approach it from several angles?

Oga At The Top....... Some Perspective

I am sure we have all seen the short clip of the Lagos State  Commandant of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) on Channels TV. So, I won't bug you with that. What I think would be beneficial if you can spare about 20 minutes to watch the full interview.  Part 1       Part 2 The first issue is the claim that channels TV presenters were not fair to the guy. hmmmmmmm.How do I start? Watching the whole interview, gives better perspective . Truth is, the presenters were fed up.The man through out the interview didn't answer 1 question directly. He had to be guided through out the process. Question after question had to be broken down and he would regularly say- My Oga(s) at the top. Not that I support them but I felt their pain. HYpertension and snoring..... REALLY!!

Okay, so I am a medical doctor and I  practiced in Nigeria. So i honestly felt i had the skinny on hypertension. I mean we all know the risk factors- familial, sedentary lifestyle, obesity , alcohol blah blah blah.  Imagine my utter shock and amusement when i saw a comment on linda ikeji's blog about causes of hypertension and someone said snoring. i was about to reply- what utter hogwash! but i decided for the sake of ..... . to check. I checked and behold. Shock, i tell you. Shock. Anyhow, we live and we learn. so, yes! snoring has been linked to hypertension. snoring causes sleep apnea, which is just a fancy way of saying oxygen deprivation. Snoring and its resulting low oxygen supply to the body can have a similar effect as lack of sleep . Research shows that someone who doesnt sleep has a higher tendency or higher risk factor for hypertension. you can find more information HERE and HERE .
