I came across this article on Y Naija - Indecent dressing leads to rape. Supposedly written by some concerned mothers. Read it HERE. I tried to keep an open mind as I read it. I am not sure if I succeeded. That said, I just have to respond. I think silence encourages people to say these things that do not help move us forward.


Dear Concerned Mothers'
YOU are the reason rape persists in our society. YOU are the reason more women do not come forward when they are raped.
People like you, concerned mothers', insist on blaming the victim. Its like justifying the rapist. 'Because she was scantily dressed, she was attacked.' The more we continue to focus on the victim, the more men feel they can and will get away with the act. Let us, STOP looking at the victim or what she wore or the color of her hair. NOTHING justifies rape.

Oga At The Top....... Some Perspective

I am sure we have all seen the short clip of the Lagos State  Commandant of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) on Channels TV. So, I won't bug you with that. What I think would be beneficial if you can spare about 20 minutes to watch the full interview.  Part 1       Part 2 The first issue is the claim that channels TV presenters were not fair to the guy. hmmmmmmm.How do I start? Watching the whole interview, gives better perspective . Truth is, the presenters were fed up.The man through out the interview didn't answer 1 question directly. He had to be guided through out the process. Question after question had to be broken down and he would regularly say- My Oga(s) at the top. Not that I support them but I felt their pain. HYpertension and snoring..... REALLY!!

Okay, so I am a medical doctor and I  practiced in Nigeria. So i honestly felt i had the skinny on hypertension. I mean we all know the risk factors- familial, sedentary lifestyle, obesity , alcohol blah blah blah.  Imagine my utter shock and amusement when i saw a comment on linda ikeji's blog about causes of hypertension and someone said snoring. i was about to reply- what utter hogwash! but i decided for the sake of ..... . to check. I checked and behold. Shock, i tell you. Shock. Anyhow, we live and we learn. so, yes! snoring has been linked to hypertension. snoring causes sleep apnea, which is just a fancy way of saying oxygen deprivation. Snoring and its resulting low oxygen supply to the body can have a similar effect as lack of sleep .
