Would You Abort for 10,000 dollars?

     You can read the full article on CNN- Crystal Kelley, a surrogate's dilemma. The summary though is that an ultrasound revealed cardiac&brain abnormalities, cleft lip and palate, no spleen and no liver. At this point the biological parents asked for the baby to be aborted. The biological parents already had 3 children, 2 with special needs. Kelley(the surrogate) refused. A monetary incentive -10,000dollars was made. Kelley remained unmoved. She just couldn't. She moved to another state to protect hers' and the baby's rights and found adoptive parents for the baby.
Now, post birth and adoption the biological parents are in touch with the adoptive parents.

So, the question; would you abort for 10,000 dollars?

    But those biological parents sef. you already have two special needs children shouldn't that be a warning that something is wrong with their genetic combinations.

    Thanks for reading Folake. I guess they were hoping . Although, I think the story later said that they didn't use the woman's egg. That it was just the father's genetic material.

Oga At The Top....... Some Perspective

I am sure we have all seen the short clip of the Lagos State  Commandant of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) on Channels TV. So, I won't bug you with that. What I think would be beneficial if you can spare about 20 minutes to watch the full interview.  Part 1       Part 2 The first issue is the claim that channels TV presenters were not fair to the guy. hmmmmmmm.How do I start? Watching the whole interview, gives better perspective . Truth is, the presenters were fed up.The man through out the interview didn't answer 1 question directly. HYpertension and snoring..... REALLY!!

Okay, so I am a medical doctor and I  practiced in Nigeria. So i honestly felt i had the skinny on hypertension. I mean we all know the risk factors- familial, sedentary lifestyle, obesity , alcohol blah blah blah.  Imagine my utter shock and amusement when i saw a comment on linda ikeji's blog about causes of hypertension and someone said snoring. i was about to reply- what utter hogwash! but i decided for the sake of ..... . to check. I checked and behold. Shock, i tell you. Shock. Anyhow, we live and we learn. so, yes! snoring has been linked to hypertension. snoring causes sleep apnea, which is just a fancy way of saying oxygen deprivation. Snoring and its resulting low oxygen supply to the body can have a similar effect as lack of sleep .
