The Skinny on Romance and technology

So, it's the 21st century and we are in the age of constant communication. From blackberry instant messanger, whatsapp, facebook chat and so on. And romance and its rules have changed and become more new age, or has it?
 Harlequin romance carried out a survey in 2012 on romance. What did the survey show? Well, women still like chivalry and like their men to pick up the tab(at least on the 1st date). lets discuss the interesting ones, shall we?
 

  1. 59% of women believe men should still ask them out.... REALLY! And mind you this survey involved mostly women in 'civilized' countries. So, can you imagine the statistics if this was asked in a place like erm.... Nigeria.
  2. 54% of women would like their men to hold the door open for them. I just have to say this, 'wa pe n be'! lol.
  3. 51% of women believe the guy should pay for the first date. But in Naija, 100% believe men should pay on ALL of their dates....
  4. 75% reported their dating lives as 'boring'. Wonder whether this is true in Nigeria. With the runs girls nko?
  5. 52% of women surveyed use Facebook as a research tool to find out information about a prospective first date. Una dey do research? hmmmmmmm.
  6. Turn on's are - humour, a killer smile and among younger women, an accent.... I can't imagine that these would hold true in Nigeria. Maybe the one about humor sha
  7. I was amused to find out that being grammatically challenged was a deal beaker... so, its not just me. Others are - being needy, being glued to their phones and  too many pictures of their ex's on facebook.
  8. 85% of women prefer a phone call over a text message although they admit that texts/I.Ms are the most common form of communication.

Oga At The Top....... Some Perspective

I am sure we have all seen the short clip of the Lagos State  Commandant of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) on Channels TV. So, I won't bug you with that. What I think would be beneficial if you can spare about 20 minutes to watch the full interview.  Part 1       Part 2 The first issue is the claim that channels TV presenters were not fair to the guy. hmmmmmmm.How do I start? Watching the whole interview, gives better perspective . Truth is, the presenters were fed up.The man through out the interview didn't answer 1 question directly. He had to be guided through out the process. Question after question had to be broken down and he would regularly say- My Oga(s) at the top. Not that I support them but I felt their pain. HYpertension and snoring..... REALLY!!

Okay, so I am a medical doctor and I  practiced in Nigeria. So i honestly felt i had the skinny on hypertension. I mean we all know the risk factors- familial, sedentary lifestyle, obesity , alcohol blah blah blah.  Imagine my utter shock and amusement when i saw a comment on linda ikeji's blog about causes of hypertension and someone said snoring. i was about to reply- what utter hogwash! but i decided for the sake of ..... . to check. I checked and behold. Shock, i tell you. Shock. Anyhow, we live and we learn. so, yes! snoring has been linked to hypertension. snoring causes sleep apnea, which is just a fancy way of saying oxygen deprivation. Snoring and its resulting low oxygen supply to the body can have a similar effect as lack of sleep .
